Women's Basketball Tripped Up By Falcons Monday, 73-58

NEW HAVEN, Conn - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's basketball team suffered its second straight defeat to the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College, this time by a score of 73-58, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest in the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Center Monday afternoon.

With the loss, the Blue Jays dip to 11-9 overall on the 2021-22 season and 7-6 in GNAC play, while the Falcons make it eight straight wins, improving to 12-8 and 11-2 in conference games.

Sophomore guard Caitlyn Scott (White Plains, N.Y.) who stole the show Saturday with a career-high 32 points, scored a game-high 22 points to lead the way. Freshman guard Maya Slisz (New Britain, Conn.) led the way for USJ with a career-high 20 points (5-6 FT), along with four rebounds and three assists. Sophomore guard Jelly Frigo (Canton, Conn.) hauled in a career-best 12 rebounds. Albertus shot 15 more free throws than Saint Joseph, converting on an extra 12 of them.

After a tightly contested first half, the Blue Jays fought hard but could not overcome the offensive attack of the Falcons, who poured in a game-best 25 points in the third period to pull away. Freshman forward Jakara Murray-Leach (Norwalk, Conn.) scored nine of her 16 in the period. She also had 10 rebounds total for a double-double. Senior forward Cheyenne-Mone Smith (Wethersfield, Conn.) had a double-double for the visitors (10 Pts, 10 Reb) in a losing effort.
