Women's Hoops Downs Dean, 68-16, In Record-Setting Night

FRANKLIN, Mass. – History was made Thursday evening as the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's basketball team steamrolled the Bulldogs of Dean College, 68-16, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) road game inside Pieri Gymnasium.

ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOK
USJ allowed just 16 points, tied for the third-fewest in school history and the fewest since allowing 15 to Southern Vermont in 2000-01. The Blue Jays 52-point win is the largest win since defeating Bay Path by 66 in 2005-06. Saint Joseph also allowed just one point in the second quarter, the fewest allowed in any quarter since women's basketball adopted quarter play in 2015-16. The five first-half points are also the fewest allowed in any half since at least 2010.

The Blue Jays are 2-0 all-time versus Dean, defeating the Bulldogs 53-50 back in 2019-20.

Dean scored the first five points of the second half before USJ answered with six straight of its own. The second half was all Blue Jays once again as the defense held Dean in check for the remainder of the contest.

COACH QUOTE [Wendy Davis]
"It was a total team effort tonight. Our defense is becoming more and more consistent regardless of who is in the game, and that is what we are striving for. We followed our gameplan and executed well. We talk about that 1998 team that has a banner hung in the gym. Ultimately one day that is our goal."

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
Junior point guard and captain Amanda Fudge was the only player in double-figures on the night with 13 points, four rebounds and a pair of steals. Senior forward Cheyenne-Mone Smith (Wethersfield, Conn.) had a game-high eight rebounds, while freshman guard Maya Slisz (New Britain, Conn.) scored eight points and had three steals as well. A total of 14 players scored for the Blue Jays.
