USJ Remains Unbeaten At Home, Bests Anna Maria Saturday, 74-43

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – After allowing just two points in the second quarter, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's basketball team claimed a, 74-43, victory over the AMCATS of Anna Maria College (ANM) Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest held inside the O'Connell Center. With the win, USJ improves 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the GNAC on the season, 4-0 at home, and has won three straight games for the second time this year.

Saint Joseph was led by sophomore forward Jordan Ouellette (Bristol, Conn.), who was the player of the game tying a career-high 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor. She also had seven rebounds. Ouellette has now scored 22 points in three of the last four games for the Blue Jays and leads the team averaging 14.9 points per game. Senior forward Cheyenne-Mone Smith (Wethersfield, Conn.) was also solid all-around in the triumph with 11 points, eight assists, four rebounds, four steals, and three blocks.

USJ scored the first 13 points of the game, and it looked like they were going to run away with it, but give credit to the AMCATS, who fought back to cut it to three, 17-14, as the first quarter wound down. Saint Joseph responded after a timeout from head coach Wendy Davis, putting on a blistering pace with an 18-2 run over the next quarter and change to pull away into the halftime break, 35-16. The AMCATS never recovered.

PLAYER QUOTE [Jordan Ouellette] "Our transition game is working so well. We are just getting out and running, getting ahead of them…and especially our passing. Cheyenne-Mone Smith was getting us some good looks inside. Our rebounding has been improving. We just love winning, so we are really pushing ourselves to get better."

COACH QUOTE [Wendy Davis] "We listened to the scouting report, and we executed it. That's the bottom line. We worked on their press, I feel like for the most part we handled it well. We are a running team, trying to get everyone involved. I am really happy with the way we played today."
