Women's Basketball Takes Setback To Maine Maritime Sunday

NORTON, Mass. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's basketball team dropped a non-conference matchup to the Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) Mariners, 86-56, inside Emerson Gymnasium Sunday afternoon in its second game of the weekend and season at the Wheaton College Tip-Off Classic.

Maine Maritime was on point in this one with four players scoring at least 13 points. Their 32-of-62 shooting also helped, nearly 52% overall. The Mariners outscored USJ 27-14 in the second quarter to take a 45-24 lead at the break and the Blue Jays were unable to mount a comeback in the second half. The Blue Jays were led by junior guard Amanda Fudge (Middletown, Conn.), who dropped a team-high 10 points in the loss. She was nearly on triple-double watch with six rebounds and five assists. The Blue Jays struggled from deep, shooting just 1-for-18 on Sunday and 2-for-29 for the weekend. They will look to turn things around when they return home Friday for the USJ Tip-Off Tournament, Presented by Coca-Cola Beverages Northeast. Maine Maritime meanwhile won both their games over the weekend by an average of 28.5 points per game.
