Carpenter, Volinsky Receive All-GNAC Accolades

WINTHROP, Mass. – Sophomores Alexis Volinsky (Berwick, Maine) and Emma Carpenter (Brooklyn, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) softball team received Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference accolades, it was announced Tuesday by the league's front office. Volinsky earned a spot on the All-GNAC Second Team at second base, while Carpenter earned a nod on the All-GNAC Third Team as a third baseman and the All-Rookie Team. Sophomore catcher Devan Fox (Granville, Mass.) was selected to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team. The awards are voted upon by the league's 16 head coaches.

Volisnky enjoyed a solid sophomore campaign for USJ, slashing .327/.397/.500 on the year, with a team-high 34 hits and 22 runs scored. Volinsky also tallied eight doubles, two triples, a team-best two homeruns, 15 RBI, 12 walks and three stolen bases. As a second baseman, she tallied 62 putouts, 53 assists and a .966 fielding percentage.

Carpenter had a stellar debut season for the Blue Jays, leading the team with a .339 batting average. Primarily playing as a third baseman, she also tallied 20 hits, two doubles, one triple, seven RBI and eight runs scored. In the field, she recorded 23 putouts, 45 assists and a .919 fielding percentage.
