WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) softball team dropped a home contest against crosstown foes the University of Hartford, 9-0, after five innings during a rain soaked Tuesday afternoon on the USJ Softball Field in West Hartford, Conn. With the result, the Blue Jays dropped to 5-11 overall on the year, while the Hawks moved to 10-5-1.
KEY MOMENTS
- The Hawks opened the game with five runs in the top of the first.
- THe visitors then tacked on four runs in the top of the second, holding a 9-0 lead.
- The Blue Jays offense could not get going at the plate, registering one hit in the game, as the Hawks took home a 9-0 victory after five innings.
NOTES
- Junior shortstop Jenna Zup (Berlin, Conn.) recorded the lone hit for USJ on the day.
- Freshman pitcher Analise Escarraman (Windham, Conn.) got the start inside the circle, picking up the loss (0-2) after allowing five runs off two hits, throwing one strikeout in 0.2 innings of work.
- Sophomore Paige Fekete (Watertown, Conn.) pitched the remainder of the game for the Blue Jays, allowing four runs, only one of which was earned, off five hits, tossing six strikeouts across 4.1 innings in relief.
UP NEXT
The Blue Jays remain at home, hosting intrastate foe Western Connecticut State University for a doubleheader on Friday, April 5. First pitch against the Wolves in game one is set for 3:00 p.m.
