Softball Falls at Trinity, 4-1, Tuesday Afternoon

HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) softball team fell on the road at local foe Trinity College, 4-1, Tuesday afternoon at the Trinity Softball Field in Hartford, Conn. With the result, the Blue Jays dropped to 5-8 overall on the year, while the Bantams moved to 9-6.

KEY MOMENTS 

  • After a scoreless opening inning, the Bantams took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second.
  • One inning later, Trinity tacked on another run via a solo homerun, extending the gap to 2-0.
  • USJ struck back in the top of the fifth, as sophomore outfielder Avianna Ibrahim (Colchester, Conn.) led off the innign with a single. Ibrahim moved to second via a sacrifice bunt before stealing third to get into prime scoring position. She then utilizied heads up base running, scoring on a passed ball to cut the deficit to 2-1.
  • However, the Bantams added two runs in the bottom of the sixth and held the Blue Jays in the top of the seventh to earn a 4-1 victory.

NOTES 

  • Ibrahim, junior Alyssa Roberts (Naugatuck, Conn.) and sophomore Madelyn Ellis (Newington, Conn.) all recorded hits for USJ.
  • Ibrahim stole the lone base for the Blue Jays.
  • Sophomore Paige Fekete (Watertown, Conn.) got the start inside the circle, picking up the loss (3-3) after allowing four runs, three of which were earned, off seven hits, and throwing one strikeout in 6.0 innings of work.

UP NEXT

The Blue Jays begin Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Thursday, March 28, heading to Anna Maria College for a doubleheader. First pitch of game one against the AMCATS is set for 3:00 p.m. at the AMCAT Softball Field in Paxton, Mass.
