
Softball Falls to Eureka and No. 18 Coe Tuesday Morning
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) softball team dropped a pair of games against tough opposition, falling to Eureka and nationally-ranked No. 18 Coe Tuesday morning during the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Fla. With the results, the Blue Jays moved to 2-4 on the year.
EUREKA 11, USJ 0 (5 INNINGS)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Red Devils opened the scoring in the top of the second, establishing a 6-0 lead.
- Eureka continued to roll, adding two more runs in the third, before adding another in the top of the fourth, extending the gap to 7-0.
- The Blue Jays could not get it going at the plate, as the Red Devils added two more runs in the top of the fifth to take home an 11-0 victory after five innings.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Junior pitcher Alyssa Roberts (Naugatuck, Conn.) got the start against Eureka, picking up the loss (1-1) after allowing nine runs, only three of which were earned, off seven hits and registering three strikeouts.
- Sophomore pitcher Tessa D'Aquila (Old Saybrook, Conn.) threw 1.1 innings in relief, giving up two runs, one of which was earned, off one hit.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Kohawks grabbed an early advantage, taking a 6-0 lead after the opening inning of play.
- USJ responded in the top of the third, as sophomore outfielder Madelyn Ellis (Newington, Conn.) and junior shortstop Jenna Zup (Berlin, Conn.) drew walks, setting up junior outfielder Izzy Milardo (Middlefield, Conn.). Milardo took advantage of the situation, hitting a single down the right field line, plating Ellis and cutting the gap to 6-1.
- However, the Blue Jays would not be able to generate any more runs, as Coe tacked on a run in the bottom of the fifth, holding on for a 7-1 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Milardo and freshman catcher Sydney Robison (Clinton, Conn.) recorded the lone hits for the Blue Jays.
- Sophomore pitcher Paige Fekete (Watertown, Conn.) tossed a complete game for USJ, allowing seven runs, four of which were earned, off 11 hits.
UP NEXT
The Blue Jays continue the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic with another pair of games tomorrow, Wednesday, March 13 in Naples, Fla. USJ first meets Lesley on the diamond at 11:00 a.m. before rounding out the day against Westfield State at 1:00 p.m.
