Roberts Earns GNAC Player and Pitcher of the Week Accolades

WINTHROP, Mass. - Sophomore pitcher and first baseman Alyssa Roberts (Naugatuck, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph softball team was named both the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, it was announced on Monday afternoon by the conference front office in its final weekly report of the 2023 season. It marks the third GNAC awards for Roberts and the fourth weekly honor for the USJ softball team this season. 

Roberts had a stellar week for USJ, guiding the Blue Jays to a perfect 4-0 record and a spot in the upcoming GNAC Playoffs. During the four days she slashed a sensational .714/.750/.786 tallying 10 hits, two runs, one double, four RBI and two walks at the plate, while posting a 2-0 record inside the circle, tallying a 1.00 ERA and 19 strikeouts. She started the week with a 2-for-4 outing in game one of a 5-1 victory at Mass. Maritime, tallying two RBI. In game two, she went 2-for-3 at the plate, scoring a run while earning the win inside the circle, earning a complete game win while tossing 10 strikeouts. She rounded out the week at Regis, going 3-for-4 at the plate in game one, recording an RBI to secure a spot in the GNAC playoffs for USJ after a 5-3 victory. In game two, she was a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish, while picking up another complete game victory, tossing nine strikeouts in a 5-1 victory.

The Blue Jays begin the GNAC postseason with a First-Round game at Lasell University tomorrow, Tuesday April 2. First pitch against the Lasers is set for 4:00 p.m. on Taylor Field in Newton, Mass.
