Roberts Earns GNAC Player of the Week Honors

WINTHROP, Mass. - Sophomore pitcher and first baseman Alyssa Roberts (Naugatuck, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph softball team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday afternoon by the conference front office in its fifth weekly report of the 2023 season. It marks the second straight GNAC award for Roberts and the third conference weekly honor for the USJ softball team this season.

Roberts paced USJ to a 2-1 week, including a sweep during its GNAC opener against Norwich on Sunday. The two-way standout slashed a sensational .778/.800/1.000, tallying seven hits, two runs scored, two doubles and nine RBI. Roberts started the week with a 1-for-2 outing at the plate against Division-I Hartford. She followed up her performance with a monstrous day at the plate in a doubleheader against Norwich. In game one, she went 3-for-4 at the plate, tallying five RBI to lead the Blue Jays to a 12-0 shutout victory in five innings. She followed up her success in game one with a perfect 3-for-3 outing in game two, tallying four RBI to complete the sweep for USJ, as the Blue Jays defeated the Cadets, 12-3, in five innings.

The Blue Jays play a doubleheader today against Elms before they remain at home for another GNAC doubleheader, welcoming Johnson & Wales University to the USJ Softball Field on Wednesday, April 5. First pitch against the Wildcats in game one is set for 3:00 p.m.
