Roberts, Ouellette Earn GNAC Softball Weekly Accolades

WINTHROP, Mass. - Sophomore pitcher Alyssa Roberts (Naugatuck, Conn.) and freshman pitcher/outfielder Kaitlyn Ouellette (Wolcott, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph softball team were named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Pitcher of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, it was announced on Monday afternoon by the conference front office in its fourth weekly report of the 2023 season. It marks the first career GNAC awards for both Roberts and Ouellette, and the first conference weekly honors for the USJ softball team this season.

Roberts went a perfect 2-0 for the Blue Jays inside the circle during a 4-0 week, posting a 0.50 ERA with 12 strikeouts in 14.0 innings of work. She went the distance against Salem State on Tuesday, pitching a complete-game shutout, allowing only five hits while striking out seven in a 7-0 victory. The right-hander followed up her performance with another complete game against Bay Path on Sunday, allowing one run on five hits with five strikeouts to pick up the victory in a 6-1 USJ win. A transfer from American International College, Roberts has immediately established herself as the leader of the USJ rotation, posting a team-best 3.18 ERA with 30 strikeouts over 33.0 innings pitched so far this season.

Ouellette continued her incredible debut campaign, as the rookie excelled both at the plate and inside the circle for USJ this past week. Pitching, she posted a complete-game win against Salem State on Tuesday, allowing three runs, two of which were earned, on six hits, while tallying eight strikeouts. At the plate in that game, she paced the team with a 3-for-4 outing, notching a triple, a RBI, and two runs scored in a 12-3 victory. Across all four games this past week, she slashed .417/.500/.667, recording five hits, one double, one triple, and three RBI against the Vikings and Bay Path. This season, Ouellette boasts a .444 batting average with 12 hits, two doubles, two triples, eight RBI and eight runs scored.

The Blue Jays continue non-conference play, travelling to Sarah Lawrence College for a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 29th. First pitch in game one against the Gryphons is set for 3:30 p.m. at Mary LeVine Field in Bronxville, N.Y.
