USJ vs Colby Sawyer
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's tennis team ended their fall season with a very good performace at the Springfield college invitational dual match. The Blue Jays won their first match against Colby Sawyer 8-4. It was a non-coference match on Saturday October 5, 2024. The Blue Jays started out badly winning only one of the 4 doubles matches. However after that they fought back and lost only one singles match to get the win.
HOW IT HAPPEND
- At number 1 doubles Karol Romer (Warsaw, Poland) and Matues Silvester (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) won their doubles match against Homonay and Jensen 6-3, reamaing undeafeated as a doubles pair.
- Number 2 doubles Rodrigo Torres (Lima, Peru) and Christian Kaverud (Glastonbury, Conn.), unfortunately lost their match against Meuse and Brezzi 5-7, after a long battle.
- At number 3 doubles colby sawyer also proved to be better. Marko Karpyuk (Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine) and Manny Hernandez-Plaza (Dorado, Puerto Rico) lost to Dvorak and Sampson 4-6.
- Last doubles match for USJ simirarily did not go as planned. Jonahtan Huot (South Windsor, Conn.) and Brett Hodas (East Berlin, Conn.) lost their match to Russo and VanHeutn 4-6.
- After his win in the doubles match Romer, quickly won his match at number 1 singles 6-2 6-4, giving the first singles point to the Blue Jays.
- USJ number 2, Torres, won his match after a difficult battle 6-7(4) 6-2 10-8, providing the 3rd point for USJ and drawing the match at 3-3.
- At number 3 singles, Kaverud, was the only one to lose his match, but he also fought until the end, only losing in the super-tiebreak 1-6 6-4 8-10.
- Hernandez-Plaza, as USJ number four won his battle with the score 4-6 7-5 11-9.
- Silvestre, at number 5 singles, rapidly dispatched his opponent 6-4 6-2.
- At number 6 singles, Karpyuk did not have the easiet time dealing with his opponent, but in the end he won 6-3 7-6(4).
- USJ number 7, Thomas Ameral (Ellington, Conn.), won his match, after yet another super-tiebreak 6-4 4-6 10-5.
- Lastly, at number 8, Ryan Boucher (Bedford, N.H.), won his match wit the score 6-3 6-4.
