Karpyuk Tabbed GNAC Men's Tennis Player and Rookie of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. - Freshman Marko Karpyuk (Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's tennis team was tabbed both the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player and Rookie of the Week, it was announced on Monday afternoon by the conference front office in its fourth weekly report of the 2023 season. It marks the first career GNAC weekly honors for Karpyuk and the third consecutive week that the Blue Jays have swept both the GNAC Men's Tennis Player and Rookie of the Week awards this season.

Karpyuk helped lead the Blue Jays to a 7-2 victory over non-conference opponent UMass Boston (UMB) at home Tuesday afternoon in the Blue Jays' lone match of the week after weather postponed USJ's scheduled matches slated for the second half of the week. The rookie from Ukraine was dominant at the No. 2 position for the Blue Jays against the Beacons. He opened the match with an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles with teammate Patrick Gavrylchuk (Middletown, Conn.), before turning in a 6-1, 6-1 straight-set triumph over UMB's Maxwell Dill at No. 2 singles. With the pair of wins, Karpyuk has been perfect over USJ's last four matches this season, winning his last eight-straight bouts between doubles and singles play.

Karpyuk and the Blue Jays return back to the courts on Wednesday, March 29 for a midweek match at home against non-conference opponent Wentworth Institute of Technology. First serve between the Blue Jays and Leopards is set for 3:00 p.m. at the Elizabeth Ferry Speer Tennis Complex in West Hartford, Conn.
