Swimming & Diving Rounds Out Regular Season Against ECSU During Senior Night

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) swimming & diving team concluded the regular season portion of its 2023-24 season against intrastate foes Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU) Friday night inside the Jack Suydam Natatorium on the campus of Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Conn. The women's team fell to the Warriors, 209-60, while the men dropped a 218-16 decision to ECSU. The meet served as senior day for USJ, as the Blue Jays honored Adelina Marcille (Waterford, Conn.), Jaelynn Solorzano (Wallingford, Conn.), Joseph Guerin (Bristol, Conn.), Tim Magill (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Andrew Parisi (Ellington, Conn.).

WOMEN'S TOP PERFORMANCES

  • 200 Yard Medley Relay – The team of sophomore Julianna Violette (Rocky Hill, Conn.), junior Amy Mamica (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and freshmen Kaia Michaud (Hamden, Conn.) and Alexia Grech (Burlington, Conn.) finished in third place after combining for a time of 2:08.91.
  • 200 Yard Free – Freshman Kate Ostrowski (Wyckoff, N.J.) topped the timing sheet, finishing in fourth after recording. Atime of 2:33.73.
  • 50 Yard Back – Violette continued her strong night, finishing in second in a time of 32.89 seconds.
  • 50 Yard Breaststroke – Marcille finished in third place, recording a time of 41.15 seconds.
  • 100 Yard Fly – Mamica placed third, touching the wall in a time of 1:08.97.
  • 50 Yard Free – Michaud finished in second place, posting a time of 27.05 seconds.
  • 1 Meter Diving – Sophomore Chandler Douglas (North Haven, Conn.) won the event, tallying a score of 161 points.
  • 100 Yard Back – Freshman Karina Deros (Watertown, Conn.) was the lone Blue Jay in the event, finishing in fourth in a time of 1:29.74.
  • 100 Yard Breaststroke – Freshman Isabella Castrillo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) finished in third, posting a time of 1:29.52.
  • 500 Yard Free – Junior Emily Beyer (Prospect, Conn.) finished in fourth, tallying a time of 7:06.56.
  • 50 Yard Fly – Michaud notched another second-place finish of the night, posting a time of 30.98 seconds.
  • 100 Yard IM – Michaud paced USJ, finishing in third in a time of 1:14.21.
  • 200 Yard Free Relay – The team of Mamica, Grech, Violette and Michaud finished in third place, combining for a time of 1:57.56.

MEN'S TOP PERFORMANCES

  • 200 Yard Free – Guerin was the lone Blue Jay, finishing in fourth in a time of 2:05.62.
  • 50 Yard Back – Parisi paced USJ, finishing in fourth after posting a time of 36.31.
  • 50 Yard Free – Guerin finished in third place, touching the wall in 26.32 seconds.
  • 100 Yard Free – Parisi lead the Blue Jays, posting a fourth-place finish with a time of 1:04.16.
  • 500 Yard Free – Guerin finished in second place, recording a time of 5:46.39.

UP NEXT

The Blue Jays round out the 2023-24 season with the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships, starting on Friday, February 2. The three-day event is slated to take place at the WPI Sports & Recreation Center in Worcester, Mass.
