Swimming & Diving Competes in Blue Jay Penathlon

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's and women's swimming and diving team made their 2023-24 Bruyette Natatorium debut on Friday night, competing in the Blue Jay Pentathlon. The Blue Jays, alongside Albertus Magnus College, Elms College, Eastern Connecticut State University, Western New England and Smith College, took part in an individual-based set of events, where the best combined time over five events would be declared the winner. Senior Joseph Guerin (Bristol, Conn.) paced the men's team while freshman Kaia Michaud (Hamden, Conn.) topped the charts for the women's team. 
 
TOP PERFORMANCES 

  • Guerin was the lone Blue Jay on the men's side to compete in all five events, placing 14th overall with a combined time of 3:13.86
  • Michaud paced the women's team, finishing in 16th after tallying a time of 3:22.95
  • Junior Amy Mamica (Rocky Hill, Conn.) was second for the Blue Jays, finishing in 19th after posting a combined time of 3:24.78
  • Sophomore Julianna Violette (Rocky Hill, Conn.) rounded out the top-three for USJ, placing 28th with a time of 3:33.64
  • Senior Adelina Marcille (Waterford, Conn.) recorded a 41st place finish with a time of 3:43.55, while freshman Alexia Grech (Burlington, Conn.) followed closely behind, finishing in 42nd with a time of 3:45.42
  • Sophomore Angelina Bernardi (Middlebury, Conn.) posted a 44th place finish with a time of 3:47.75, while freshman Jodie Hammond (Newington, Conn.) recorded a 50th place finish with a time of 4:01.93
  • Freshman Isabella Castrillo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and junior Emily Beyer (Prospect, Conn.) rounded out the USJ lineup, finishing in 52nd and 53rd place, respectively.

The Blue Jays return to the pool next on Saturday, October 28 for the Roger Williams Invitational inside the Aquatics Center in Bristol, R.I.
