Men's Swimming & Diving Defeats UNE, Falls to Regis During Season Opener

WESTON, Mass. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's swimming and diving team began its 2023-24 campaign Saturday morning, falling to Regis College (Regis) 122-68 and defeating the University of New England (UNE), 89-54, in a double dual-meet inside Regis Pool in Weston, Mass.

TOP PERFORMANCES

  • 200 Yard Medley Relay – The team of seniors Joseph Guerin (Bristol, Conn.), Tim Magill (Staten Island, N.Y.), and Andrew Parisi (Ellington, Conn.) and sophomore Jacob Maillie (Media, Pa.) recorded a second-place finish after posting a time of 2:13.96.
  • 1000 Yard Free – Guerin won the event for USJ after touching the wall in a time of 13:32.88.
  • 200 Yard Free – Senior Tyler Sebold (Centerport, N.Y.) made it back-to-back wins for USJ, placing first after posting a time of 2:47.36.
  • 50 Yard Back – Parisi recorded a second-place finish after touchign the wall in a time of 39.17 seconds.
  • 50 Yard Breaststroke – Freshman Thanushra Samaratunga (Colombo, Sri Lanka) was the lone Blue Jay in the event, placing third after recording a time of 41.20 seconds.
  • 50 Yard Free – Maillie paced USJ in the event, finishing fourth after posting a time of 26.85 seconds.
  • 100 Yard Free – Magill lead the Blue Jays, finishign fourth with a time of 1:08.54
  • 100 Yard Back - Maillie won the event after posting a time of 1:19.36.
  • 100 Yard Breaststroke - Samaratunga finished in third place after touching the wall in a time of 1:39.68
  • 500 Yard Free – Guerin posted a second-place finish after recording a time of 6:29.65.
  • 200 Yard Free Relay– The team of Maillie, Magil, Parisi and Guerin won the event after combining for a time of 1:55.24.

UP NEXT

The Blue Jays return to West Hartford for their 2023-24 home debut on Friday, October 20, hosting the annual Blue Jay Pentathlon. The event inside the Bruyette Natatorium is set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
