Allo Breaks GNAC Record, Leads USJ During Day Two of GNAC Championships

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's swimming and diving team continued its record-breaking ways during day two of the 2023 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championships Saturday, tallying 126 points to sit in second after the second day of action. The men were paced by graduate student Michael Allo (Newington, Conn.), who continued his stellar championship performance, breaking the GNAC meet record in the 200-yard breaststroke to win the gold medal. Overall, the Blue Jays brought home five medals on the night.

TOP PERFORMANCES 

  • 200 Yard Free Relay – The team of Allo, seniors Aaron Gauvin (Berlin, Conn.), Maksym Ugrak (Newington, Conn.), and junior Vinnie Carbonell (Berlin, Conn.)  brought home the silver medal, finishing in second after combining for a time of 1:32.18
  • 100 Yard Butterfly – Ugrak finished in fifth place, recording a time of 57.17 seconds.
  • 500 Yard Free – Junior Joseph Guerin (Bristol, Conn.) finished in fifth place for the Blue Jays, touching the wall in a time of 5:29.23.
  • 50 Yard Free– Carbonell finished in sixth place, recording a time of 23.49 seconds while Gauvin followed closely behind in seventh, posting a time of 24.02 seconds.
  • 200 Yard Breaststroke – Allo made history in the event, breaking the GNAC Championship meet record by .02 seconds, bringing home the gold medal after posting a time of 2:08.66
  • 100 Yard IM – Carbonell earned the bronze medal, posting a time of 59.83 seconds.
  • 800 Yard Free Relay – The team of Allo, Guerin, Carbonell and Gauvin took home the silver medal, combining for a time of 7:49.41
  • 1 Meter Diving – Senior David Kavanaugh (West Hartford, Conn.) continued his fantastic GNAC championships, earning the bronze medal after recording a score of 286.40.
