Men's Swimming & Diving Rounds Out Regular Season at ECSU

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's swimming and diving team rounded out the 2022-23 regular season, dropping a 188-63 decision on the road against intrastate foe Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU), in a dual meet this evening inside the Sports Center in Willimantic, Conn.

TOP PERFORMANCES 

  • 200 Yard Medley Relay – The team of junior Vinnie Carbonell (Berlin, Conn.), graduate student Michael Allo (Newington, Conn.), and seniors Maksym Ugrak (Newington, Conn.) and Aaron Gauvin (Berlin, Conn.) finished second in a time of 1:48.00
  • 1000 Yard Free – Gauvin was the lone Blue Jay in the event, placing third after touching the wall in a time of 12:24.20
  • 200 Yard Free – Junior Joseph Guerin (Bristol, Conn.), earned a second-place finish for USJ, recording a time of 2:07.37
  • 50 Yard Backstroke – Gauvin paced USJ in the event, finishing second after recording a time of 30.54 
  • 50 Yard Breaststroke – Allo won his first event of the day, leading all finishers with a time of 29.17
  • 100 Yard Butterfly – Ugrak, the sole participant for USJ, took home a second-place finish after hitting the wall in 1:00.25
  • 50 Yard Free – Senior Tim Magill (Staten Island, N.Y.) lead all Blue Jays in the event, finishing fifth with a time of 28.57
  • 100 Yard Free– Carbonell recorded a runners-up finish, touching the wall in a time of 55.77
  • 100 Yard Backstroke – Gauvin took home a third-place finish after posting a time of 1:06.27
  • 100 Yard Breaststroke – Ugrak paced USJ, finishing third with a time of 1:09.33.
  • 500 Yard Free – Guerin recorded a third place showing, touching the wall in a time of 5:53.88
  • 50 Yard Butterfly – Carbonell finished in third place, notching a time of 28.05
  • 100 Yard IM – Allo won his second event of the day, leading all finishers with a time of 57.39
  • 200 Yard Free Relay– The team of Ugrak, Guerin, Carbonell and Allo finished in second, combining for a time of 1:39.12

UP NEXT
The Blue Jays begin postseason competition with the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships. Held at the Boston Sports Institute in Wellesley, Mass., the three-day event is set to begin on Friday, February 3.
