
Men's Soccer Falls on the Road at Emmanuel, 2-0, Tuesday Night
BOSTON - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's soccer team fell on the road at Emmanuel College (EC), 2-0, Tuesday night during Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play at Roberto Clemente Field in Boston. The loss snapped the Blue Jays' 10-match unbeaten streak. With the result, the Blue Jays dropped to 7-4-3 on the year and 6-1-3 in GNAC play, while the Saints moved to 7-4-2 overall and 6-2-2 in the conference.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- The host Saints would grab the lead at the 9:31 mark, as first year defender Jacob Beck (Dallas, Ga.) received a pass inside the box, muscling off a defender before rounding USJ goalkeeper Aidan Peterson (Cheshire, Conn.) and sliding the ball into the net, establishing a 1-0 EC edge.
- EC continued to control the remainder of the first half, limiting the Blue Jays to one off-target shot, as USJ entered the halftime break trailing, 1-0.
- After a slow start to the second half, the hosts extended the lead to 2-0 at the 69:32 mark after junior midfielder Joe Anderson (Tampa, Fla.) converted a penalty kick.
- The Blue Jays were unable to find a breakthrough during the remainder of the half, as the Saints took home a 2-0 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- EC outshot USJ, 16-8 and held a 5-1 edge in shots on goal.
- The Saints also had the advantage in corner kicks over the Blue Jays, 5-1.
- Peterson played all 90 minutes in goal, recording three saves.
- The result marks the first time that EC defeated USJ.
