WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's soccer team rescued a point at home against Anna Maria College (AMC), tying the AMCATS, 1-1, Saturday afternoon during Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play at the USJ Soccer Field in West Hartford, Conn. The draw increased the Blue Jays' unbeaten run to 10 straight games. With the result, the Blue Jays moved to 7-3-3 on the year and 6-0-3 in GNAC play, while the AMCATS moved to 8-3-1 overall and 6-3-1 in the conference.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Both the Blue Jays and AMCATS traded shots in the opening stanza, trying to find an opening goal, but Anna Maria's goalkeeper Valter Santiago and USJ's freshman netminder Will Slayton (Manchester, Conn.) would deny the opposing offenses.
  • However, the AMCATS found the breakthrough late, as Rubelsi Moran scored at the 44:05 mark, sending the visitors into the half with a 1-0 edge.
  • The Blue Jays began to find its rhythm in the second half, peppering shots on net in order to find the equalizer.
  • USJ was rewarded for their efforts at the 77:19 mark, as sophomore midfielder Adrian Tran (Plainville, Conn.) picked up a loose ball after a USJ shot rattled off the crossbard, sending a pass to freshman midfielder Mario Milardo (Middletown, Conn.) who guided the ball past Santiago, tying the game at 1-1.
  • Neither team could generate a scoring opportunity late in the match, as both teams settled for a 1-1 draw.

  • Tran recorded his first career point, dishing out an assist.
