Garcia Martin Earns GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week Accolades

WINTHROP, Mass. - Junior goalkeeper Jose Miguel Garcia Martin (Madrid, Spain) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's soccer team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Goalkeeper of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon in its eighth weekly report of the 2022 season. It marks the first career GNAC weekly honor for Garcia Marin and the first for the Blue Jays this season. 

In a 1-0-1 week for USJ, Garcia Martin stopped 13 of the 15 shots he faced, recording a .867 save percentage across two GNAC games. The junior started the week in record-breaking fashion, tallying a career-high 12 saves in a 2-2 draw against Johnson & Wales University on Wednesday night in Providence. Garcia Martin followed his performance up by recording his fourth shutout of the season during a 4-0 victory against Rivier on the road on Saturday.

Garcia Martin, who has started in 10 of the 11 games that he has appeared in, boasts a 6-3-2 record in 2022. He currently paces the Blue Jays with 45 saves and a 1.76 goals against average.

Garcia Martin and the Blue Jays round out their 2022 regular season slate at home against Anna Maria on Wednesday, October 26. Kickoff against the AMCATS is set for 6:00 p.m. on the USJ Soccer Field in West Hartford, Conn.
