KEY MOMENTS

  • Elijah Rowland (Hartford, Conn.), wasted little time trying his luck from the opening kickoff, but his effort was saved by the SJC keeper.
  • However, the Monks struck first, scoring the game's opening goal only 32 seconds in, taking the lead.
  • SJC would try and double the advantage minutes later, but USJ goalkeeper Jose Miguel Garcia Martin (Madrid, Spain) would come up big for the Blue Jay's, denying a pair of shots within the opening 10 minutes, preventing the Monks from doubling the gap.
  • Mergim Kutllovci (Thomaston, Conn.) looked to equalize the match in the 20th minute, but his effort was blocked. Kutllovci would find space again in the 25th minute, but his shot would miss just wide of the net.
  • The Blue Jays would generate another great goal scoring opportunity in the 38th minute. Brian Silva (Naugatuck, Conn.) would step up to take a free kick just outside the box for USJ. However, his strike was well blocked by the SJC wall, preventing Silva from equalizing.
  • DeAnte Anderson (Bloomfield, Conn.), continued to pile on the pressure for the Blue Jays, forcing an excellent save by the Monks goalkeeper a few moments later. Generating a corner kick after the save, Anthony Delacruz (East Hartford, Conn.) got on the end of the corner, forcing another great save, before Rowland saw his rebound effort miss just wide.
  • Both sides would trade chances back and forth in the closing moments, but the Monks would take its 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
  • The hosts would strike first again the second half, doubling their advantage in the 51st minute, taking a 2-0 lead.
  • Kutlovci would look to pull one back for the Blue Jays in the 63rd minute. The midfielder would storm down the middle of the pitch, firing off a strike from long range, but his effort fell straight into the arms of the SJC keeper.
  • However, the Monks would add a third in the 64th minute, taking a 3-0 lead.
  • USJ would be brought down to 10 men in the 68th minute, as Anderson picked up his second yellow card, seeing the red card.
  • The deficit would ultimately prove too much for the Blue Jays, as USJ fell, 3-0, to the Monks.
