Men's Soccer Sensational In 6-0 Senior Day Shutout Of Fisher

WEST HARTFORD, Conn.  It was an ideal Senior Day for the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's soccer team, which steamrolled its way to a 6-0 shutout victory over Fisher College (FC), in a non-conference match on the USJ Soccer Field Tuesday afternoon. Prior to the match, 13 USJ seniors were recognized for their efforts in the field, in the classroom, and in the community in front of family and friends. USJ also acknowledged the six seniors for Fisher in the pregame festivities.

The Blue Jays were in control pretty much from the start, taking a 1-0 halftime lead. The real damage was done in the second half, as four different Blue Jays found the back of the cage to end this one in a rout. Senior forward DeAnte Anderson (Bloomfield, Conn.) and sophomore forward Dane Stephens (Jamaica) were the high-men with two goals each. Anderson, who is the top goal-scorer in the country, also added a game-high three assists for nine points on the day. Stephens, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) leader in assists, had two dimes himself to finish with eight points. Junior midfielder Michael Torres (Hartford, Conn.) and sophomore forward Anthony Caracoglia (Cromwell, Conn.) also scored for USJ. It marked Caracoglia's first career goal.

PLAYER QUOTE
[Marcello Delvalle] "It's really great just to see how far we've come. We used to have that grass field, now we are stepping on the nice new turf field on senior night. I wouldn't want it with anybody else, and we got the [win]."

PLAYER QUOTE
[Domeniko Skrelja] "It all starts with the guys, I am just trying to help everyone out on the field as much as I can, especially freshman year, I knew it was going to be very difficult starting a new program. Our goal was to get that level of energy going back then so that come senior year, we could be competing for a GNAC Championship. It's great to lead this group of guys. Like Marcello said, I really couldn't have asked for a better group of guys to spend Senior Day with. I really think this group could do something special."

PLAYER QUOTE [Gaetano LaBella] "It was a great performance today, so great to come out of here with a win. It's just a sad day, you know? A lot of these guys have another year coming up maybe, but I am one of the few that is definitely out, so it is a little sad for me personally."

COACH QUOTE [Paul Wright] "It was a special night to celebrate the seniors, the original cast and crew who came and started this when we went from an all-female college to co-ed. It was a special time, and it was great to see them perform well."
