
Men's Lacrosse Dismantles Rival Albertus Magnus, 18-1, During Senior Day
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's lacrosse team concluded its 2025 regular season Wednesday afternoon, trouncing intrastate and Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Albertus Magnus College (Albertus), 18-1, at the USJ Lacrosse Field. The matchup against the Falcons served as Senior Day for the Blue Jays, who honored seniors Jay Kajander (Reading, Mass.), Christian Decker (Bristol, Conn.), Garrett Lazor (Monroe, Conn.), Cole Primo (Berlin, Conn.), Micah Tarlton (Lisbon, Conn.), Calvin Holliday (Burlington, Conn.), Nick Schilling (Brookfield, Conn.), Evan Zimnoch (Southington, Conn.), Luke von Borstel (Massena, N.Y.) and Nicholas Pulcini (Berlin, Conn.) prior to the opening faceoff. With the result, the Blue Jays finished the regular season 8-7 overall, 6-3 in GNAC play, and 4-1 in the South Division. The Falcons concluded their year 5-10 overall, 2-7 in the GNAC, and 1-4 in divisional play.

USJ struck first, as graduate student Aidan D'Amato (Tolland, Conn.) connected with Decker, who fired a shot into the net at the 9:24 mark to establish a 1-0 lead.

Von Borstel won the ensuing faceoff and scored unassisted to make it 2-0.

Decker netted his second goal minutes later, before junior attack Freeman Johnson (Swanzey, N.H.) assisted a goal by sophomore midfielder Matthew Wurszt (Wilbraham, Mass.), extending the lead to 4-0 with 3:20 left in the first.

D'Amato added his first goal of the game with 2:24 remaining in the quarter, giving the Blue Jays a 5-0 edge heading into the second.

D'Amato struck again to open the second quarter, followed by goals from Wurszt and Zimnoch to increase the lead to 8-0 with 8:03 left in the half.

Decker completed his hat trick with a man-up goal, and graduate student Kevin Carr (West Hartford, Conn.) added another to send USJ into halftime up 10-0.

Decker opened the second half with another man-up goal. Freshman attack Dominic Oakes (Southington, Conn.) and freshman midfielder Anthony Bell (Wolcott, Conn.) followed with their first goals of the game, extending the advantage to 13-0 entering the fourth quarter.

Freshman attack Chris Clancy (Glastonbury, Conn.) and junior midfielder Quinn Perkins (Norwich, Conn.) scored early in the fourth before Albertus Magnus netted its lone goal of the game at the 7:05 mark, cutting the deficit to 15-1.

Sophomore attack JD DeNicola-Rakvin (Staten Island, N.Y.), freshman midfielder Sly Curto (South Hadley, Mass.) and Zimnoch closed out the scoring to seal the 18-1 victory.

Freshman Geret Madeira (Wakefield, R.I.) played the remainder of the first half, recording one save.

Sophomore Noah Isleib (Easton, Mass.) played the entire second half and tallied seven saves.

The Blue Jays begin their quest to defend the GNAC Championship, hosting a quarterfinal matchup against Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday, April 26. Opening faceoff at the USJ Lacrosse Field is set for 1 p.m.
