
Men's Lacrosse Falls on the Road at Manhattanville, 12-9, Saturday Afternoon
PURCHASE, N.Y. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's lacrosse team fell on the road to Manhattanville University (Manhattanville), 12-9, in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at GoValiants.com Field in Purchase, N.Y. With the result, the Blue Jays moved to 1-1 on the young season, while the Valiants started their season 1-0.
KEY MOMENTS
- USJ got off to a strong start, as sophomore midfielder Brenden Tedeschi (Orange, Vt.) scored the opening goal at the 10:31 mark.
- Graduate student midfielder Kevin Carr (West Hartford, Conn.), extended the gap to 2-0, finding the back of the net with 7:27 on the clock.
- Senior midfielder Christian Decker (Bristol, Conn.) continued the momentum, scoring a solo goal at the 6:51 mark to extend the lead to 3-0.
- However, Manhattanville responded with three unanswered goals, tying the game at 3-3 entering the second quarter.
- The Valiants carried the momentum into the second quarter, scoring four straight goals to take a 7-3 lead with 7:11 left in the second quarter.
- Graduate student midfielder Aidan D'Amato (Tolland, Conn.) put an end to the run, receiving a pass from classmate Ryan Paltauf (Southbury, Conn.) before ripping his shot into the goal, cutting the gap to 7-4, at the 6:10 mark.
- Manhattanville would score again, but D'Amato would net his second goal of the quarter off an assist from Decker, sending USJ into the halftime break trailing, 8-5.
- Carr would strike first for the Blue Jays in the third quarter, scoring at the 10:03 mark, but the Valiants would answer with a strike at the 8:44 mark, keeping hold off a three-goal lead, 9-6.
- However, D'Amato would round out his hat-trick at the 1:30 mark, before finding the back of the net again with eight seconds left in the third, closing the deficit to one, 9-8, entering the fourth quarter.
- Manhattanville though would shut down the USJ offense, scoring three unanswered goals to open the fourth, increasing the gap to four, 12-8, with 5:07 left to play.
- Sophomore attack Matthew Wurszt (Wilbraham, Mass.) would score late for USJ, but the deficit was too much to overcome, as Manhattanville secured the 12-9 victory.
NOTES
- D'Amato paced the team with four goals.
- Decker dished out three assists on the day.
- Carr corralled a team-best 10 ground balls.
- Decker and Carr caused a team-high two turnovers each.
- Senior Luke von Borstel (Massenna, N.Y.) was the primary face-off man, posting an 8-of-16 mark at the "X".
- Graduate student Trey McCann (Simsbury, Conn.) played all 60 minutes in net, tallying 13 saves.

The Blue Jays continue a three-game road trip, heading to Dudley, Mass. to face Nichols College on Wednesday, February 26. Opening faceoff against the Bison at Vendetti Field is set for 3:00 p.m.
