Men's Lacrosse Falls on the Road at Nichols

DUDLEY, Mass. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's lacrosse team saw its two-game winning streak to start the 2023 season snapped, falling on the road at Nichols College, 16-3, Friday night in Dudley, Mass. Senior attack Evan Baden (Burlington, Conn.) finished with two goals.

Christian Decker (Bristol, Conn.) continued his strong start to the year, giving USJ the early lead a minute into the game, finding the back of the net after receiving a pass from Cam Fonseca (Saunderstown, R.I.). However, the Bison would rattle off five unanswered to close the first quarter, taking a 5-1 lead into the second. Nichols continued their scoring run in the second, netting three more goals, increasing the lead to 8-1. Baden would put an end to Nichols' streak, finding space before rifling his shot into the net, cutting the gap to 8-2 entering halftime.

The Bison dominated the third quarter, keeping the Blue Jays scoreless while adding seven goals of their own, taking a 15-2 lead into the fourth quarter. Baden would find the back of the net again in the fourth for USJ as Garrett Lazor (Masuk, Conn.) recorded the assist. However, the goal would not be enough as Nichols took home a 16-3 victory.

GOALIE BREAKDOWN

Nichols –Brady Morgan picked up the win after allowing three goals while making eight saves in 54:11 minutes of play. The win moves his record to 4-1 on the year. Andrew Peppe played the remaining 5:49 and did not record a statistic.

USJ – Trey McCann (Simsbury, Conn.) played all 60 minutes in goal, picking up the loss after allowing 16 goals and making 12 saves. With the result his record drops to 2-1 on the season.

BATTLE AT THE 'X'

The Blue Jays dominated at the faceoff X, winning 16 of the 22 face offs. Nick Pestrichello (Wethersfield, Conn.) was dominate, winning 12 of his 14 face offs.

UP NEXT
The Blue Jays return to West Hartford, beginning a two-game homestand on Wednesday, March 8 against intrastate foe Eastern Connecticut. Start time against the Warriors is set for 3:30 p.m. on the USJ Lacrosse Field.
