Zimnoch Named GNAC Men's Lacrosse Rookie Of The Week

WINTHROP, Mass. - Freshman attackman Evan Zimnoch (Southington, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph men's lacrosse team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week, it was announced on Monday evening by the conference front office in its seventh weekly report of the 2022 season. It marks the first career GNAC weekly honor for Zimnoch and the second for the USJ men's lacrosse team this season.

Zimnoch scored five goals for five points over a two-game span this past week, including a career-high four goals on Saturday versus Rivier, to earn his first career GNAC weekly nod. The Southington product opened the week with a third-period goal, which was part of a seven-goal second-half run to tie the game for the Blue Jays on Wednesday at Emmanuel. However, the Blue Jays' comeback attempt came up just short as they fell, 14-13, to the Saints in the program's first-ever overtime game. The 5-8 freshman then followed that up with his best offensive outing of his young career, netting a career-best four goals on Saturday at home in a 16-10 setback to Rivier. Zimnoch also scooped up three ground balls against the Raiders and logged an 85.7 shooting percentage for the week, finding the back of the net five times on just seven shots.

Zimnoch currently ranks fifth on the Blue Jays' roster in goals scored with 15 through the team's first 13 games of the 2022 campaign. He also has three assists on the year to total 18 points, which is the sixth-highest mark on the squad, and also boasts a stellar shooting percentage, landing 29 of his 39 shots taken on cage for a mark of 74.4%
