Men's Lacrosse Handles Intrastate Rival Albertus Magnus, 18-3

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's lacrosse team picked up another dominant victory Wednesday evening, this time over the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College (AMC), 18-3, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) road contest, held on Celentano Field on a cool night under the lights.

GAME INFORMATION
Score: Saint Joseph 18, Albertus Magnus 3
Records: USJ 5-6 (2-3 GNAC), AMC 5-6 (1-4 GNAC),
Location: Celentano Field | New Haven, Conn.

Sophomore attackman Ryan Paltauf (Southbury, Conn.) was the top scorer for the Blue Jays with two goals and four assists, totaling six points. He remains the GNAC leader with 39 assists. A pair of Blue Jays meanwhile each had a career-high four goals; junior middie Benjamin Green (Chelmsford, Mass.), and senior attack Matt Guerin (East Longmeadow, Mass.). Guerin already has more points this season (26) through 10 games than he did in 12 games last season (25). Green meanwhile scored more goals Wednesday night than he did in his first two seasons combined (11 games). Senior midfielder Jayme Toro (New Haven, Conn.) scored a pair of goals for the hosts.

Saint Joseph shut out the Falcons in the first half, taking an 11-0 advantage. Green scored three of his four in the first half. Toro finally got Albertus on the board in the third period, but USJ answered with five straight goals to pull away for good. The Blue Jays have won four of five games this season by 15+ goals, including the last two, 18-3.

COACH QUOTE [Andrew Fink]
"A great win for our team. It's always a good feeling when you can beat a Connecticut rival in AMC and to be able to play everyone in that win. Both teams came in at 1-3 in the GNAC, so we really needed that conference win. When we get it going [and score a lot of goals], it's great because it allows us to play fast. We hope to keep it that way."

GOALIE BREAKDOWN

USJ – Junior goalkeeper and captain Trey McCann (Simsbury, Conn.) grabbed the win (4-5), shutting out the Falcons in 30 minutes of action (four saves). Graduate student stopper Joseph Varagnolo (Centereach, N.Y.), and freshman goalkeeper Nick Schilling (Brookfield, Conn.) saw 15 minutes of action each for the visitors.

AMC – Senior goalie Dane Walsh (Bethany, Conn.) dropped to 5-6 on the year, allowing 18 goals but making 26 saves in a full 60 minutes between the pipes.

BATTLE AT THE 'X'

Faceoffs were practically split down the middle, as AMC held a 12-11 advantage overall. Freshman faceoff Luke von Borstel (Massena, N.Y.) was the high-man for Saint Joseph with six of 10 successful faceoffs.
