Bio

Rashamel Jones is in his second season as assistant coach for men's basketball in 2019-2020.

Jones was co-captain on Jim Calhoun’s first national championship team at UConn in 1999, and a Student Assistant for the Huskies in 2005. Today, he is coaching alongside the man he has learned so much from, and he could not be happier.

Jones played professional basketball in Australia for two years before suffering a career-ending knee injury in 2001. In addition to the 1999 National Championship, he led the Huskies to three Big East titles, and was named to the All-Big East Tournament Team as a junior.

Jones had an illustrious basketball career at Trinity Catholic High in Stamford. As a four-year starting swingman at Trinity, the 6-foot-4 Jones was a three-time all-state selection, and led the Crusaders to two FCIAC Titles. He was named both the Gatorade State Player of the Year, and top player in New England as a senior in 1995, when he averaged 27 points and 10 rebounds. His 2,301 career points is still the all-time boys’ leader for the city of Stamford, and fifth in the state overall.

In addition to his work on the USJ basketball court, Jones is a private basketball instructor, and a Registered Behavioral Technician in the Middletown School System. Jones, who grew up in Westchester N.Y., was elected to the UConn Wing of the FC Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.
