Bio

Glen Miller enters his third season as Head Coach at USJ in 2023-24, after being elevated to the position in November 2021 following the retirement of Jim Calhoun. Prior to his appointment, Miller spent the previous three seasons on the Blue Jays’ staff as Associate Head Coach.

During his time with the Blue Jays, Miller has coached and developed one All-American, two conference Rookie of the Year, three conference Defensive Player of the Year, one Conference Player of the Year, one D3hoops.com Northeast Region Rookie of the Year, four National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District, five D3hoops.com All-Region, and nine All-Conference honorees.

In the 2022-23 campaign, Miller guided the Blue Jays during a historic season that saw USJ ascend to the No. 1 nationally-ranked team, and the No. 1 team in Region I. Under the direction of Miller, the Blue Jays posted a 29-2 record, the most wins in a single season in program history, including a perfect 18-0 mark in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play, to extend the Blue Jays' conference unbeaten streak to an unprecedented 41 games. The Blue Jays would fall in the GNAC Championship game, but would continue its historic season by taking part in the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament for the third consecutive year after receiving the GNAC's first-ever at-large bid. The Blue Jays advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen after defeating Chatham University in the First Round and Williams College in the Second Round, becoming the first team in USJ history to win an NCAA Tournament game and third-ever conference program to reach the Sweet Sixteen.

Statistically, the Blue Jays continued to dominate defensively in Miller’s second season, leading the nation in field-goal percentage defense. For his efforts, Miller was named the GNAC Coach of the Year, D3hoops.com Region 1 Coach of the Year and the NABC District 1 Coach of the Year.

After taking over the reins of the men’s basketball program during the 2021-22 campaign, Miller led the Blue Jays to a 26-2 record overall and a perfect 18-0 mark in GNAC play. After winning the regular season championship, USJ carried its success into the playoffs as Miller guided the team to its second straight GNAC title after defeating rivals Albertus Magnus in the championship game. The team made its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance that season, falling in the opening round to Penn State Harrisburg in the Worcester, Mass., regional. The Blue Jays dominated on both ends of the court in the 2021-22 season, finishing first in the nation in field-goal percentage defense, while ranking ninth in the country in field-goal percentage offense. Adding onto his success, Miller was named the 2021-22 GNAC Coach of the Year.

Joining the Saint Joseph staff in October 2017, Miller began working immediately alongside hall of famer Jim Calhoun on building USJ’s first-ever men’s basketball program, a program that reached the 2019 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship with an all-freshman starting five. They followed it up with their first GNAC Title in 2020, and played in the NCAA Div. III Tournament in Springfield, Mass.

Prior to joining USJ, Miller returned to UConn, spending seven years on staff of the Huskies, including five as the Associate Head Coach. During his time with UConn, Miller was part of a coaching staff that won the NCAA National Championship in 2011 and 2014 and Big East Tournament Championship in 2011. While at UConn, he was an integral part of all practice work, game strategy, player development, recruiting, scouting, and academic success for the Huskies.

Before returning to UConn, Miller was hired as head coach of the University of Pennsylvania in 2006. At Penn, he led the Quakers to the Ivy League Championship, and a NCAA Tournament berth in 2006-07, setting the school record for most Ivy League wins by a first-year coach. The 2006-07 Quakers team continued to make history, setting the program record for the highest team scoring average in a Philadelphia Big 5 season, averaging 83 points per game. In addition, Miller recruited and developed Tyler Bernardini, the 2007 Ivy League Rookie of the Year and the first Quaker to receive Philadelphia Big 5 Rookie of the Year. Miller also coached former Ivy League Player of the Year Ibrahim Jaaber.

Miller’s Division I head coaching experience began at fellow Ivy League member Brown in the 1999-2000 season, where his teams set school records for wins in a two, three, four, and five-year span, as well as most Ivy League wins in a season. In the 2002-03 season, the Bears tied the school record for wins in a season with 17, earning the programs first-ever National Invitational Tournament (NIT) berth. During that season, Brown posted 12 Ivy League victories, the most in program history and included the team’s first ever-win at Princeton. For his efforts that season, Miller was named the 20003 CollegeInsider.com Ivy League Coach of the Year. In total, Miller recruited and developed 10 all-conference players, including two three-time First-Team All-Conference players, the 2005 Ivy League Rookie of the Year and the Ivy League’s 2004 Player of the Year.

Prior to taking over at Brown, Miller enjoyed a highly successful span as head coach at Division III Connecticut College. In six seasons, Miller led Conn. College to unprecedented heights. In the 1997-98 season, the Camels achieved their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, advancing to the Sweet 16. The following season, Miller guided Conn. College to its only undefeated regular season (24-0) as the Camels achieved the No.1 ranking in the nation and in New England en route to an appearance in the NCAA Final Four in 1998-99. Conn. College finished that season with a record of 28-1, the best record in program history.

Miller began his coaching career at UConn in 1986, and worked with the Huskies for seven seasons before being named head coach at Connecticut College in 1993.

A native of Groton where he starred at Fitch High School, Miller played for two seasons at UConn, then played two seasons for Calhoun at Northeastern.

Born Aug. 20, 1961, Miller and his wife Yvonne reside in Bloomfield, Conn. and are the parents of four children: Tony, Genelle, Jillian, and Emma.
