
Feldrappe Double-Double Powers Men's Hoops Past Norwich, 78-64, Saturday Afternoon
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Junior forward Friedrich Feldrappe (Berlin, Germany) notched a double-double to power the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's basketball team past Norwich University (Norwich), 78-64, Saturday afternoon during Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play inside the James A. Calhoun Gymnasium in West Hartford, Conn. With the result, the Blue Jays improve to 9-5 on the season and 3-0 in GNAC play while the Cadets move to 10-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- USJ dominated to open the game, breaking open an 11-0 advantage after Feldrappe scored seven points as the game hit a media timeout with 15:31 on the clock.
- Norwich would respond with a 10-4 stretch, cutting the gap to five, 15-10, at the 13:05 mark.
- The Blue Jays would fire back though, utilizing a 9-0 run, featuring three points each by Feldrappe, senior guard Kevin Cummings (Portsmouth, N.H.) and freshman forward Adelphe Cisse (Pointe-Noire, Congo), to break open a 24-10 lead and force the Cadets to call a timeout with 10:48 left in the half.
- USJ and Norwich would trade buckets over the next four minutes, as the Blue Jays maintained a 14-point lead, 30-16, at the 6:07 mark.
- Sophomore wing Jalen Holmes (Cherry Hill, N.J.) continued his impressive game, scoring back-to-back baskets to see USJ hold a 34-19 edge with 3:56 left in the half.
- Norwich would begin to mount a late comeback, utilizing an 8-2 stretch to cut the deficit to nine, 38-29, and force USJ to call a timeout with 14.7 seconds remaining in the first half. The score would hold entering the halftime break.
- After trading baskets to open the half, USJ used a 6-2 stretch, featuring four points by Cummings, to increase the lead to 13, 46-33, at the 17:02 mark.
- Norwich would respond with a 5-0 run, cutting the gap to eight, 46-38, with 15:49 on the clock.
- The Blue Jays fired back with an 8-0 stretch, fueled by three-pointers from Cummings and junior wing Lence Altenor (Everett, Mass.), to establish a 54-38 lead at the 14:09 mark.
- Norwich answered with a 6-3 run, closing the gap back to 10, 57-47, with 10:10 left in the game.
- USJ would increase the lead back to 18 though, as Holmes drained a deep three-pointer to establish a 71-53 edge at the 4:31 mark.
- The deficit proved too much to overcome for Norwich as the Blue Jays secured the victory, 78-64.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Altenor and Cummings paced the team offensively, scoring a team-high 18 points each.
- Feldrappe record his third double-double of the season after hauling in a career-high 15 rebounds and 15 points.
- Holmes scored a career-high 13 points off the bench.
- Freshman guard Jakari Tertulien (Bridgeport, Conn.) dished out a career-high seven assists.
- USJ had a significant edge in rebounding, outrebounding Norwich 49-31.
- The Blue Jays dominated inside the paint, scoring 44 points from inside.
