Men's Basketball 12th In Latest Top 25 Poll

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's basketball program dipped to No. 12 in the D3hoops.com Men's Basketball Week 11 Poll, announced Monday by site officials.

The Blue Jays, who are 23-1 overall, were the last unbeaten D-III team in the nation before suffering their first loss of the season to then #24 Yeshiva, 87-76 in New York on February 17. It was a 2-1 week overall for Saint Joseph, which clinched the top-seed in the upcoming GNAC Tournament, and home-court advantage throughout the playoffs.

USJ sits at No. 12, just behind fellow Connecticut school, Wesleyan University. The top-10 list can be found below:

The Blue Jays win streak (23) was the longest active streak in all of college basketball (Div I-III) at the time of defeat to Yeshiva. USJ maintains its NCAA-leading conference win streak of 33 games.

USJ has had some notable success individually in both the conference and the nation's leaders. Senior forward Jordan Powell is fifth in all of D-III in field goal percentage (68.8%), while senior guard Jaecee Martin (Hartford, Conn.) is in the top-25 in the nation in assists per game (5.8). Martin shattered the school record and tied an NCAA high this season with 18 assists in one game. His 18 assists are tied for the third-most in a game this season across all three NCAA divisions, including D-I. 

From the team side, the Blue Jays are among the nation's leaders in numerous categories, including scoring margin (23.5, 2nd), field goal percentage defense (36.2%, 2nd), blocks per game (6.1, 2nd), opponent points per game (61.4, 12th), and three-point field goal defense (28.6%, 18th).

The D3hoops.com Top-25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, sports information directors, and media members from across the country and is published weekly. Points are awarded on a 25-24-23-22-etc. basis.

The top-seeded Blue Jays have concluded the regular season and have a first-round bye in the GNAC Tournament. USJ, which has home court advantage throughout the playoffs, will host Saint Joe's (Me.) in the GNAC Quarterfinals on Wednesday, February 23 at 7:00 p.m. in the O'Connell Center.
