#6 USJ Dominates Lasell, 91-64, Now 20-0 To Start Season

NEWTON, Mass. - The nationally-ranked No.6 University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's basketball team streamrolled its way to its 20th win of the season, defeating the Lasell University (LU) Lasers, 91-64 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) road game inside the Lasell Athletic Center Wednesday night. The victory is the 22nd straight dating back to last season. USJ has also won 20 of its last 21 games by double digits.

A flock of five Blue Jays scored in double figures on the night including junior forward Jalen Samuels (Franklin, Mass.), who dropped a career-high 17 points on a near-perfect 8-for-9 shooting. Samuels once again did this off the bench. Senior guard Tyree Mitchell (East Hartford, Conn.) added 15 off the bench as well. Senior guard Jaecee Martin (Hartford, Conn.) was tremendous in his own right, recording a double-double in 31 minutes of action (14 Pts, 10 Reb). Senior guard EJ Day (Norwalk, Conn.) scored a game-high 24 points for the hosts.

Saint Joseph owned a sizeable edge in bench points (41-12), and shot a season-best 65.5% from the field (35-68). It's also the best the Blue Jays have shot in a game since Feb. 8, 2020 against Saint Joseph's College of Maine (65.7%). Points in the paint was also a major factor, as USJ handled the inside convincingly, 52-16. USJ was +10 on the boards (36-26), and never trailed in this one.

COACH QUOTE [Glen Miller]
"We had an excellent offensive game shooting 74% in the first half and 65% for the game. Our depth has been and continues to be a significant factor in our success this season. As well as we have played up to this point in the season, it is essential that we cut down on unforced turnovers and shoot a higher percentage from the foul line as we head down the stretch run and into post-season play."

USJ is now 3-0 all-time against Lasell, having won the last two games by an average of 32 points. The Blue Jays are second in the NCAA in scoring margin, winning by an average of 26 points per game this season.
