Powell Earns First Career GNAC Player Of The Week Nod

WINTHROP, Mass. - Senior forward Jordan Powell (Middletown, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's basketball team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference front office on Monday afternoon in its fifth weekly report of the 2021-22 season. It marks the first career GNAC weekly honor for Powell and the second in the past three weeks for the nationally-ranked USJ men's basketball team this year.

Powell helped power nationally-ranked No. 5 USJ to a 2-0 GNAC week as the Blue Jays ran their win streak to eight straight games to start the 2021-22 season. In just 21.0 minutes per game, Powell averaged a double-double on the week with 15.0 points and 11.0 rebounds, while shooting it at a 59.1% (13-22) clip over the two-game span in route to earning his first career GNAC Player of the Week honor. The 6-6 Middletown product opened the week with 12 points and nine rebounds in 17 minutes of floor time in an 86-60 victory over Elms on Thursday at home before turning in a 15-point, 13-rebound performance in 25 minutes at home on Saturday in a 91-68 triumph over Anna Maria.

Powell continues to lead the GNAC in field-goal percentage shooting at 72.1% on the season, which is also the fifth-best mark in all of NCAA Division III. He is currently one of four Blue Jays averaging double figures on the season with 12.3 points per game and leads the team in rebounding with 7.1 rebounds per game.

Powell and the Blue Jays will enjoy the holiday season before taking a trip to the Entertainment Capital of the World, as they prep for the D3hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas. Saint Joseph will play two games in two nights starting on Tuesday, December 28 against Transylvania at 10:00 p.m. EST, and No. 10 Marietta on Wednesday, December 29 at 8:00 p.m. EST.
