Jackson Jr. Earns Second GNAC MBB Rookie of the Week Nod

WINTHROP, Mass. - Freshman Delshawn Jackson Jr. (Hartford, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's basketball team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week, it was announced on Monday afternoon by the league's front office. It marks the second time this season that Jackson Jr. has earned Rookie of the Week accolades and the sixth time a USJ player has been awarded the honor through the opening eight weeks of the 2018-19 basketball season.

Jackson Jr. logged a pair of 20-plus point performances to help the Blue Jays to a 1-1 record on the hardwood this past week and pick up the GNAC weekly honor. The 5-10 Hartford product finished the week averaging 22.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game while turning it over a total of just four times. He continued his hot shooting of late hitting 14-of-26 (53.8%) of his attempts from the field including an impressive 9-of-13 (69.2%) showing from beyond the arc. He was also efficient at the free-throw line converting 8-of-9 (88.9%) attempts.

Jackson Jr. opened the week and new year with 24 points (7-14 FG, 4-6 3PT, 6-6 FT) and five assists in a heartbreaking, 98-95, overtime setback to intrastate foe Western Connecticut on the road Wednesday night. He followed it up by going for 21 points (7-12 FG, 5-7 3PT, 2-3 FT) and three assists in just 23 minutes of floor time as the Blue Jays rebounded with a huge, 116-40, blowout victory at home over Lesley Saturday.

Jackson Jr. now currently ranks second on the Blue Jays averaging 14.4 points per game and leads the team averaging 4.1 assists per game on the season.
