Five From Field Hockey Earn NFHCA Academic Squad Honors

GENEVA, N.Y. – Five members of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) field hockey program were named to the 2022 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Squad, it was announced by the association Thursday afternoon. This year, over 1,700 student-athletes from 157 Division III institutions earned recognition for the high academic accolade.

The NFHCA National Academic Squad program, sponsored by OPA Winning Teams, honors undergraduate collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher through the first semester of the current academic year, and were nominated by their NFHCA member coach.

Senior Emma Kociszewski (Thomaston, Conn.), junior Wendy Bowden (Old Saybrook, Conn.), and freshmen McKenzie Fairfax (Waterbury, Conn.), Ariana Komonaj (Thomaston, Conn.), and Isabella Pelletier (Weare, N.H.) earned the national honor for the Blue Jays. The group was amongst 82 student-athletes from across the GNAC to receive the honors.

Johns Hopkins University and Middlebury College had the most National Academic Squad selections this year with 24 student-athletes on the list. Washington and Lee University had the second-most National Academic Squad selections this year, placing 23 student-athletes on the list while Smith College had the third-most with 22 student-athletes on the list.
