Komonaj Named GNAC Field Hockey Rookie Of The Week

WINTHROP, Mass. - Freshman midfielder Ariana Komonaj (Thomaston, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) field hockey team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday afternoon by the conference front office in its sixth weekly report of the 2022 season. It marks the first career GNAC weekly honor for Komonaj and the first for the USJ field hockey team this season.

Komonaj helped power the Blue Jays to a 1-1 week with five points over a pair of GNAC contests en route to earning her first career conference accolade. The rookie from Thomaston opened the week by scoring her first career goal in a 2-1 setback to Elms College at home on Tuesday evening. She followed that up by netting her second goal of the week and her career, while also adding an assist, to help propel the Blue Jays to a 4-0 triumph at home over Regis College on Friday night.

It marks the second GNAC Rookie of the Week award earned in the program's brief two-year history. Teammate Makenzie Dinger (Hingham, Mass.) also donned the honor in Week 6 during the 2021 campaign.

UP NEXT

Field hockey returns back to play on Wednesday, October 12 for a GNAC match on the road at Simmons University. The action is set to begin between the Blue Jays and Sharks at 3:30 p.m. at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass.
