Field Hockey Fights, Falls 6-2 In Road Conference Contest

CHICOPEE, Mass.  The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) field hockey team dropped a 6-2 decision to the Blazers of Elms College (EC) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match on Leary Field Wednesday afternoon.

The Blue Jays scored twice in this one and cut the gap to 2-1 in the second period, but a consistent and accurate attack from the Blazers was enough to keep them out front to the end. EC outshot USJ 28-6 despite the Blue Jays hanging in there on penalty corners (9-6 edge for Elms). Those opportunities led to a pair of goals in three different stanzas for the hosts. Sophomore forward Alexa Kowalski (Thomaston, Conn.) scored both goals for USJ to record her first career multi-goal game. She has scored three of her four goals this season in the last three matches. Junior midfielder Emma Kociszewski (Thomaston, Conn.) assisted on both scores. Sophomore goalie and captain Wendy Bowden (Old Saybrook, Conn.) was busy in goal, making 14 saves, but could only do so much with so many shots headed her way.
