Field Hockey Downs Regis On The Road Wednesday, 3-2

WESTON, Mass. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) field hockey team has now won three of its last four matches, securing a 3-2 victory on the road over the Pride of Regis College (REG) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match at Regis Stadium Wednesday evening.

USJ managed to get ahead early, and it paid dividends, never once relinquishing the lead over the hosts. The scoring was started by junior midfielder Emma Kociszewski (Thomaston, Conn.), who scored her first collegiate goal less than three minutes into the contest. Sophomore forward Alexa Kowalski (Thomaston, Conn.) was next to put her name in the scoring column, netting her second-career goal in the second period to give USJ a 2-0 advantage. Regis trimmed the gap to 2-1 at half, but the Blue Jay defense was dialed in throughout the second half. A late third goal from senior defender Nina Lestrud (Torrington, Conn.) iced it for the Blue Jays, who have picked up some key victories at just the right time as the GNAC playoffs loom.

GOALIE BREAKDOWN

USJ – Sophomore goalie and captain Wendy Bowden (Old Saybrook, Conn.) was a difference maker in this one, making six big saves as Regis continued to take shots at her on goal. She improved to 3-6 overall with the win, allowing just two goals in 60 minutes of play.

REG – Sophomore goalkeeper Jocelyn White (Wilmington, Mass.) took the loss (1-8), allowing three goals and making one stop along the way in the cage in a full 60 minutes of action.
