Dinger Collects GNAC Field Hockey Rookie Of The Week Award

WINTHROP, Mass. - Junior midfielder Makenzie Dinger (Hingham, Mass.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) field hockey team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week, it was unveiled by the conference front office on Monday afternoon in its sixth weekly report of the 2021 season. It marks the first career GNAC weekly honor for Dinger in field hockey, which is in its maiden season. She also picked up a GNAC Rookie of the Week award in women's lacrosse last spring on March 22.

Dinger had a nine-point week to help power the Blue Jays to a 2-1 record across a trio of contests last week en route to earning GNAC Rookie of the Week honors. Dinger netted four goals and added an assist to account for the nine points. The Hingham, Mass. product opened the week with a breakout performance, scoring three goals and adding an assist in an 11-1 rout of intrastate and GNAC rival Albertus Magnus on Monday. Dinger followed that up by adding another goal to her tally, which also served as the game-winning goal, on Wednesday in a 4-0 shutout victory versus Dean. She now has a team-best 12 points with three weeks left in the Blue Jays' inaugural field hockey season with a team-high five goals to go along with two assists.

Dinger and the Blue Jays will be back in action on Wednesday, October 13 on the road in a GNAC contest at the Regis College Pride beginning at 5:00 p.m.
