WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) field hockey team dominated a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest against the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College (AMC), 11-1, to claim its first-ever home victory on the USJ Field Hockey Field on a rainy Monday afternoon.

The Blue Jays, who scored just once in a 1-0 overtime win at Albertus Magnus in their first-ever contest back on September 1, scored one minute and one second into the match Monday and never looked back. They scored eight first-half goals to take total control of the contest, as junior midfielder Makenzie Dinger (Hingham, Mass.) led the charge with three goals and an assist to total seven points on the day. A trio of Blue Jays added two goals apiece, including junior defender Cayleen DeFaranos (Northford, Conn.), senior midfielder and captain Taya Valdez (East Lyme, Conn.), and sophomore midfielder McKenna Gibson (Old Saybrook, Conn.). Six different players scored in total for USJ, who scored more goals Monday than they had all season.

GOALIE BREAKDOWN

USJ – Sophomore goalie and captain Wendy Bowden (Old Saybrook, Conn.) secured her first career win (1-5), allowing just one goal and making two saves in a full 60 minutes of work.
 
AMC – Junior Mikayla Lyston (Medford, N.Y.) took the loss (0-5), allowing 11 goals in 60 minutes. She did however make 17 saves in total despite allowing the goals.

 The Blue Jays will be back at home for another Great Northeast Athletic Conference battle, this time against the Bulldogs of Dean College on Wednesday, October 6 at 4:00 p.m. on the USJ Field Hockey Field.
