Field Hockey Falls At Home To Lasell In GNAC Setback, 4-0

WEST HARTFORD, Conn.  The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) field hockey team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest to the Lasers of Lasell University (LAS), 4-0, on the USJ Field Hockey Field Saturday afternoon.

The Lasers, the 2019 GNAC Field Hockey runner-ups, controlled the action for much of the contest, capitalizing on their huge advantage on penalty corners, 15-0. Opportunities came often, and the Blue Jays defense did what they could to take many away, but Lasell added a goal in each period to stay in front en route to the victory.

GAME INFORMATION
Score: Lasell 4, Saint Joseph 0
Records: LAS 4-4 (3-0 GNAC), USJ 1-5 (0-2 GNAC)
Location: USJ Field Hockey Field | West Hartford, Conn.

COACH QUOTE [Karen Nell] "We were obviously down a significant amount of players, our backup goalie [Abby Delgado] was playing the field for the first time ever. Our defense certainly stayed strong, and kept the team in second place [in the GNAC] in check for a long time. They had a lot of opportunities, and we were able to keep the game close, which was really our goal coming in. We definitely have the potential to win some games, so we need to go out there and execute better."

GAME NOTES

  • Lasell held a hefty 27-2 shots advantage.
  • Fifth straight loss for USJ.
  • First-ever meeting between the teams.
  • Eight penalty corners for Lasell in the first period. They had seven the other three periods combined.
