WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) baseball team continued tis perfect start to the 2025 season, taking down Keene State College (KSC), 4-2, Friday afternoon at the USJ Baseball Field in West Hartford, Conn. With the result, the Blue Jays move to 2-0 overall on the young season, while the Owls open their campaign at 0-1 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- USJ immediately grabbed the lead in the bottom of the first, as freshman infielder Jack Kane (West Hartford, Conn.) continued his strong start to his collegiate career, ripping a two-out triple to right field, plating junior outfielder Dom Scalia (Northford, Conn.) to establish a 1-0 lead.
- In the very next at-bat, sophomore infielder Lawrence Winslow (Melbourne, Fla.) slashed a double to right, scoring Kane and increasing the lead to 2-0.
- Then, junior outfielder Ryan Quinn (Middletown, Conn.) continued the two-out rally, slashing a triple of his own to center, scoring Winslow and establishing a 3-0 USJ lead after the first inning.
- After a scoreless second frame, Quinn would tack on a run in the bottom of the third, as his ball hit deep into the infield was enough for Kane to cross home plate and increase the gap to 4-0.
- Starting pitcher, sophomore Ethan Slowik (Greenville, N.Y.) continued to hold the Owls bats at bay, preserving the lead after four innings.
- However, Keene State would cut the deficit, scoring one run in the fifth and sixth innings, cutting the advantage to 4-2 after six innings.
- USJ's pitching staff though would not allow the Owls from closing the deficit, as sophomore hurler Zach Thielen (Brooklyn, N.Y.) pitched two stellar innings to pick up the save, and secure the victory for the Blue Jays, 4-2.
