Women's Tennis Sweeps Curry, 7-0, Saturday Morning
MILTON, Mass. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's tennis team got back in the win column Saturday morning, sweeping Conference of New England (CNE) foe Curry College, 7-0, on the road at the Trent J. Scott '96 Tennis Courts in Milton, Mass. With the result, the Blue Jays moved to 4-8 overall and 2-5 in conference play, while the Colonels dropped to 0-9 overall and 0-7 in the CNE.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Junior Nina Gardella (Lebanon, Conn.) and senior Gia Alvarez (Meriden, Conn.) made quick work of their opponents at No. 3 doubles, securing a 6-0 win to open doubles play.
- The duo of junior Jillian Milo (Southington, Conn.) and senior Allie Long (East Hartford, Conn.) followed suit at No. 2 doubles, also claiming a 6-0 victory to clinch the lone doubles point for USJ.
- The No. 1 doubles team of senior Lili Garcia (Wethersfield, Conn.) and sophomore Maddie Rossetti (Hamden, Conn.) rounded out the unblemished start for USJ, winning 6-0 as well to claim all three doubles matches for the Blue Jays.
- Rossetti carried the momentum into singles play, sweeping her opponent at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, to extend the USJ advantage to 2-0.
- Gardella followed up the performance at No. 5 singles, cruising to victory, 6-0, 6-0, and increasing the gap to 3-0.
- Junior Daynah Echevarria (New Britain, Conn.) clinched the match win for the Blue Jays at No. 6 singles, also blanking her opponent, 6-0, 6-0, and extending the advantage to 4-0.
- Alvarez continued the Blue Jays' winning ways at No. 3 singles, winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1, and furthering the gap to 5-0.
- Sophomore Carolina Mancini (Manchester, Conn.), maintained USJ's perfect day, winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1, to establish a 6-0 edge.
- Garcia put the finishing touches on the Blue Jays' victory at No. 2 singles, claiming a 6-1, 6-2 decision, to secure the sweep, 7-0.

The Blue Jays return to West Hartford for a CNE match against Suffolk University on Tuesday, Oct. 21. First serve against the Rams at the Elizabeth Ferry Speer Tennis Complex is set for 3 p.m.
