Women's Soccer Settles for Scoreless Draw at Rivier Saturday
NASHUA, N.H. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's soccer team battled to a scoreless draw at Rivier University (Rivier) during Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play Saturday afternoon at Joanne Merrill Field in Nashua, N.H. With the result, the Blue Jays moved to 5-9-2 overall and 5-5-2 in the GNAC, while the Raiders moved to 8-4-5 on the year and 8-1-3 in conference play.
KEY MOMENTS
- Both teams battled during the openign stretch of the first half, with neither team generating clear scoring chances.
- USJ would fire off numerous shots late in the half, but none would trouble the Rivier goalkeeper as the game remainded scoreless entering halftime.
- The Blue Jays continued to try and find the games opening goal, as junior forward Christina Quitoni (Patchogue, N.Y.) forced a impressive double-save out of the Rivier goalkeeper with 74:15 left in the game.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Madison Corcoran (Bristol, Conn.) would come up big for the Blue Jays late, producing two great saves to keep the game scoreless and secure a 0-0 draw for USJ.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Blue Jays and Raiders were deadlocked in shots, 10-10.
- Rivier had the slight edge in corner kicks, 2-1.
- Corcoran tallied four saves to pick up the tie.
UP NEXT
The Blue Jays return home for a two-game homestand, starting with a matchup against intrastate foes Mitchell College on Tuesday, October 22. Opening kickoff against the Mariners at the USJ Soccer Field in West Hartford, Conn., is set for 3:00 p.m.
